Free Pine Script Optimization in AI Edge Studio
With a Free AI Edge account, you can run one optimization study at a time in your browser. You do not need Optimizer credits or a paid membership.
- Use a script you open in Studio, such as the example in Your First Study. Your own script must be compatible: see Before Using Your Own Script.
- Strategies labelled Built-In in study setup run only in the cloud, so they need a paid plan.
A study compares a script's input values on historical data using an objective you choose, which gives each tested set of values a score. The highest score describes those tests; it does not establish future performance. Before you sign in, you can explore Studio, load samples, and edit supported Pine Script®.
1. Open Studio
Select Open Studio on the homepage or in the documentation navigation. Studio opens for browsing, samples, and local editing before sign-in.
For a quick introduction that needs no account, try the interactive demo on the homepage.
2. Sign In When You Are Ready to Run a Study
- In Studio, select Optimize. A dialog titled Sign in to optimize this strategy opens.
- Select Sign In or Create a Free Account. The AI Edge sign-in page opens. To stay in the preview, select Keep Editing instead.
- Select Continue with Google. If you are already a Patreon member, select Continue with Patreon instead.
- If the Terms of Service appear, read them and select I Agree.
- After you sign in, you return to the same Studio page. On a desktop-width window, check that the bottom of the sidebar shows your name or email instead of the Sign In button.
Sign in the same way every time. A Patreon sign-in and a Google sign-in create two separate AI Edge accounts. If you are a Patreon member, select Continue with Patreon each time. To run studies in your browser on a Free account, you do not need a TradingView username or a Discord connection.
Keep your preview work when you sign in. Before sign-in, Studio saves your scripts in this browser. To move that work into your account, sign in from Studio and return to the same tab within 30 minutes. Studio then moves that browser tab's open editor tabs and saved scripts into your account in this browser. Signing in does not upload your scripts. The move needs browser storage, which some private windows block.
After 30 minutes, or when you return to a different tab, the work does not move automatically. If Studio cannot move something, it keeps the work on this device and shows a notice:
- If your account already has a newer Studio workspace in this browser, Studio keeps the preview's open tabs in a separate recovery record. The notice asks you not to clear site data. Keep that data: it still holds your guest work.
- If the notice asks you to reload, select Reload Studio.
On a shared computer, sign in before you paste a private script. Anyone who uses or duplicates this tab before sign-in shares that preview session.
3. Run Your First Study
Follow Your First Study. It gives you a ready-made example script, the sample dataset, the input values, the objective (the measure used to rank the results), and screenshots. You run a small study of five trials. Each trial tests one set of input values.
You have completed the first run when the study has finished, you can open its trial results, and you can inspect a selected trial's trades on the chart. If a run fails, keep the error text and use connection troubleshooting for access errors or the study guide for run and results controls.
Keep the Studio browser tab open and avoid reloading it while a study runs. A Free study runs in that tab. You can open other pages inside the app.
What Each Access Level Includes
| Access | What it is for |
|---|---|
| No account (preview) | Explore Studio, load samples, and edit scripts. To start a study, sign in. |
| Free account | Run one compatible browser study at a time, without Optimizer credits. Keep its browser tab open and avoid reloading it while it runs. |
| Pro membership | Run up to two browser studies at once. Adds cloud studies, Premium indicators and the other benefits listed on current pricing. |
| Max membership | Run up to five browser studies at once, with the cloud allowance and other benefits listed on current pricing. |
For concurrent browser studies on a paid plan, choose Parallel Runs in New Study. The runs share the tab that starts them; keep it open until the results sync. The limit applies to your account across tabs and devices. Browser studies use no cloud credits, even on a paid plan. Check Account settings on the AI Edge website for your current membership.
A Free account cannot start a study in the cloud. When you choose where a study runs, the cloud option is unavailable. It says that cloud studies are part of a paid plan and offers a See Plans button. Your Free account can still run studies in your browser.
TradingView Paid Spaces
TradingView Paid Spaces is a different subscription. It gives access to TradingView indicators. You do not need it to use Studio. A Paid Spaces subscription alone does not give you an AI Edge membership. Compare the access routes.
Before Using Your Own Script
Studio supports part of Pine Script, and that part is growing. A script is compatible when Studio can compile it and prepare it for optimization. When a script is not compatible, Optimize is unavailable and Studio tells you what to fix, for example script errors or a missing backtest signal.
Your script can draw a chart in Studio and still not be compatible. It can also give results that differ from TradingView. Before you run a study, fix the compiler and optimization messages that Studio shows for your script.
Starting a study sends data to AI Edge, even when the study runs in your browser. Studio sends the study's dataset, configuration, parameters, and compiled strategy. See what is stored and sent.
By default, your scripts and Settings (the script's input values) stay in the browser you are using. This is not a backup. If you clear site data, use a private window, or switch to another browser or device, you can lose your local scripts and Settings. Export .pine keeps a copy of the current script source only, so save attached library sources separately.
Starting a study uploads the compiled strategy, not the script source. When your script imports a published library that this browser does not have, Studio also looks the library up through AI Edge. The lookup sends the library's import path or TradingView publication ID, and its version. It does not send your script.
Paid accounts may also offer explicit cloud source sync in the Script Library. Sync To Cloud followed by Enable Sync uploads the selected script, its attached libraries and recent saved versions, then syncs future saves. It is separate from Free browser optimization and is never required for this tutorial. See Storage and Recovery.
Need Help?
If the sidebar still shows Sign In, you are still in the preview, unless Studio shows the access message in the next paragraph. Select Sign In and complete sign-in on AI Edge. You return to the same Studio page.
If Studio shows Optimizer access is currently unavailable for this account, your account cannot start a study right now. You can keep editing in Studio. The sidebar can still show Sign In, but signing in again does not restore access while the cause remains. Select About Optimizer access to read why, then check your account or contact support. Buying a subscription does not lift an account block.
For more steps, read connection troubleshooting or join Discord to ask for help. You do not have to take part in the community to use Studio.
